This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born to a Banks County, Georgia farm family, she was the epitome of a folk artist--naive, reclusive and tied to a rural background. She grew up in a large farm family and her paintings, primarily landscapes and an occasional portrait, reflect this background. She was age 50 before she began to paint and worked on canvas in a tight style suggestive of pointillism with tapestry-like surface. Her themes are harvest, birth and death, local festivities--simple pleasures of rural life. She never married and lived alone after her mother died. Her work became highly sought after. |
