| | Born in Oklahoma on July 30, 1903. Overstreet moved to California with his family in 1904. In 1928 he settled in Berkeley where for 35 years he was a professor of soil chemistry at UC. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1945. He died in Berkeley on Oct. 8, 1968.
