Vesta A. Olmstead was a painter born in Santa Barbara on May 17, 1863. Her painting, "Mission San Luis Del Rey" is held at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
According to Edan Hughes in his book "Artists in California", (2nd.ed.), she was a member of a pioneer Santa Barbara family. She studied with Henry Chapman Ford, and accompanied the Fords on mission painting trips in the 1880s. The Fords lived at the Olmsteads while their house was being completed.
