Alkis PIerrakos is a Greek painter.  He paints spontaneously since the age of 16 years and spent his childhood outside of Greece, a country in which he returned in 1938.

After years of war in Athens in 1947, he left his country for study and travel throughout the Italy, Switzerland and England finally settling in Paris, the city where he has worked since 1954 .

Since 1945-46, Pierrakos has painted more than 2000 oil on canvas or panel. Nearly half is visible in France, in private or public collections. The remaining half is found in Greece, Australia, Great Britain, Switzerland and Germany.

Having shown mainly in Black and White, Pierrakos realized until today between 3500 and 4000 designs, most of the ink.  Those in the series Buildings of the 1950s, best known as the most characteristic trait of the artist's energetic, show the "false sweetness" of Pierrakos, placing it among the great abstract-1950s.  Since then, his work has been designed to enrich the visual vocabulary of the romantic and expressionistic second half of the twentieth century.

His work has more than 1,200 watercolors, gouaches with egg and other mixed media on paper.  Through this technique, Pierrakos shows how it remains one of the best colorists from Kandinsky.  In his early works, like 'The grandfather Vatikiotis 1941, the influence of German Expressionism, and especially of Oskar Kokoschka he was a disciple in the late 1940s, is very strong.  Since then, Pierrakos has constantly renew themselves in this discipline and assume a singularity drawing its source cumulatively and alternately in the abstraction and figuration.
It was for Professor Francis Bacon 's at the Slade School in London.

He attended, among others, Andre Lanskoy, Serge Poliakoff, Maurice Estève, Saint-John Perse and Edwin Fischer.
