This biography from the Archives of AskART:
In 2003 Andrew Paquette left California and the feature-animation industry to pursue a career painting southwest landscapes. Paquette has found inspiration in the landscape near Phoenix; most of his scenes are within 100 miles of his home. He paints his large scale landscapes on-site and he typically finishes two to four 36X48 acrylic paintings a week.

Biography from Taos Gallery:
The following is from the artist, whose website is

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Andrew Paquette wanted to be a physicist, not an artist. After being forced to take an art class due to a snafu where one school would not accept advanced transfer science credits from another, he learned he had an aptitude for art.

He spent the first sixteen years of his career as an illustrator, comic book artist, art director, and special effects artist in New York City and Hollywood. During that time he developed a body of work comprised almost entirely of plein-air watercolors that became the basis for a career as a painter. Most of these paintings are made in California and tend to be mountain scapes from national parks like Yosemite, Mt. Whitney, Death Valley, etc.

He lived in more than eight states and had over fifty addresses in his first thirty-eight years and traveled extensively both on assignments and on frequent painting trips.

He does not have a high school diploma or degrees from any of the colleges he attended but did study privately with California artists Ron Robertson and Ernst Halpern. Later he studied Chinese painting techniques with noted Chinese artist C.C. Wang in New York City.

After leaving Sony Pictures in 2002, he used most of his time to paint. He made about a hundred watercolors, and then moved to Arizona to start a career as a painter in earnest. His latest works are large format acrylics, all painted plein-air in the Southwest.
