Born in Massa, Italy, Attilio Piccirilli became a sculptor of his own work, monuments and portrait busts, and a stone carver and modeler for pieces by other sculptors. He worked with his brothers from his studio on 142nd Street in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. "Their studio specialized in stone modeling and carving for the leading sculptors of their day." (Roussel, 155)
