| A native of Westwood, Massachusetts, Carl Pickhardt held teaching positions at the Worcester Museum School, the Fitchburg Art Museum, and the Sturbridge Art School. He was appointed Edward R Bacon Art Scholar at Harvard, and was included in exhibitions at the Whitney, MoMA, the National Academy of Design, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
During the 1930s, he focused exclusively on American Scene painting and to the study of drawing.
