This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in North Lawrence, NY in 1830. As a youth Parish (or Parrish as he is also known) served as an apprentice to a builder-architect. Joining the Gold Rush, he sailed around the Horn to California in 1850. He soon settled in Jackson as a manufacturer of rock crushers and quartz mills and carried on other businesses as well. During the 1850s and 1860s he was owner and operator of a toll bridge at Big Bar in Amador County. During his leisure he made many pencil drawings of the towns in the Mother Lode area and moved to Oakland shortly after the birth of his son, Henry, in 1865. One of his sketches was lithographed by Britton & Rey. He died in the house he was born on April 6, 1902 while visiting relatives in New York. In: Society of Calif. Pioneers; Bancroft Library (UC Berkeley); Society of Calif. Pioneers; CHS.
