Biography from Dixon-Hall Fine Art:
| Born in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, Charles W. Patterson studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with Daniel Garber. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Art Association where he exhibited and won a prize in 1914. He also exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery biennial (1914), the Pittsburgh Art Society (1924) and the Friends of Pittsburgh Art (1929). His work is included in the 100 Friends of Art, Pittsburgh.
On some of his painting complex layering of color on color is astonishingly accomplished, yielding the pointillist effect of the French post-Impressionists and showing the influence of Patterson’s teacher, Daniel Garber.
