This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A newspaper artist, painter, art teacher and writer, Clair Packer lived in San Antonio, Texas, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.  In San Antonio, he worked for the San Antonio Express newspaper from 1946-48 and was Instructor of Art at Littlehouse Gallery from 1947-48.  In Tulsa, he was artist for the Tulsa World newspaper, 1948-65; and cartoonist for the The Valley Morning Star. 

Many of his illustrations and painting subjects were action sketches of rodeo contestants, landscapes, marine scenes , Indians and cowboys.

Packer studied at the University of New Mexico in Albuqueque, and also took other classes.  Among his art teachers were Millard Sheets, Barse Miller; Joseph Imhof, Kenneth Adams, Harry Anthony De Young and Paul Barr.

He was a member of the Texas Fine Arts Association and Southern States Art League.

Clair Lange Packer was born on August 27, 1901 in Geuda Springs, Kansas.  Packer studied at the University of New Mexico and with Millard Sheets, Barse Miller, Kenneth Adams, Victor Higgins, and O.E. Berninghaus. 

He worked for the San Antonio Express, 1946-48 and the Tulsa World from 1948-65.

Member:

Texas Fine Art Association.; Tulsa Art Guild.

Exhibitions: Witte Memorial Museum; Philbrook Art Museum; Dallas Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts of Houston; Elisabet Ney Museum of Art.
