This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, Clara Perry was a landscape and figure painter in oil and pastel and a sculptor of figures in realist style.

She studied with Robert Henri and at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School with Edmund Tarbell and Frank Benson. She spent much time in France, spending her summers at Haute Loire, and exhibiting at the Beaux- Arts Salon. She traveled to many European countries, using local subject matter for her paintings of scenes of every day life.

Returning to New York, she again studied again with Henri and was in the landmark Exhibition of Independent Artists in 1910, a protest of exhibits strictly controlled by the National Academy. Henri was an organizer as was John Sloan and Walt Kuhn.

Perry exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In 1922, she became a member of the National Association of Women Artists, and was also a member of the Copley Society in Boston, the Society of Independent Artists, and the Washington Arts Club.
