The following is from the artist, who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota and also has a studio in Glasgow, Kentucky:
Born near Gackle, a small town in North Dakota, December 17, 1925, Clarence Pitkanen moved to northern Minnesota after finishing grade school. At age 20, he served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Okinawa, and after this service, worked at various jobs. But his major interest was in making molds, and sand casting figurines, as well as doing some lost wax casting.
