| A painter noted for miniatures and teaching, she lived in Louisville, Kentucky where she and her good friend, Xantippe Saunders, ran the Pering and Saunders Art School. In the 1880s, she had studied in Paris, France with a Madame D. de Cool and in 1880 exhibited a drawing with the Paris Salon.
Pering's teaching specialty was miniatures. She was a member of the Louisville Art League. Her father was Cornelius Pering (1806-1881), a noted Kentucky artist.
