A painter and teacher, he was born in Monterey, California on Feb. 18, 1902. Dewitt was
named for a great uncle and a cousin, both artists. He was also the son of Charles Rollo Peters and the brother of Charles Rollo Peters III. His art studies
began under his famous father, and at an early age he
was sent to NYC to study at the Art Students League and then on to Paris where he was a
pupil of Leger and Sterner. He was also a writer for several years for
