| Born in Leroy, NY on June 8, 1840. Penniman entered the Cooper Institute (NYC) in 1858 where she became proficient at oil painting. She then taught drawing and painting in New York at Watertown Institute, Cooperstown Academy, and Maplewood Seminary at Pittsfield. In 1871 she moved to Chicago and opened a studio. From 1873 until 1878 she lived in Rome, Italy where she furthered her art studies. Returning to NYC, she maintained a studio there until 1885. She the (showing 500 of 771 characters). |
