This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Rochester, NY on June 4, 1836. In 1869 Emma married F. M. Pixley in San Francisco. She studied locally at the School of Design under Irwin, Mathews, and Sparks, and at the Cooper Union in NYC. Most of her life was spent in San Francisco except for periods in Marin County, CA and Seattle. Mrs. Pixley specialized in Chinatown genre, landscapes of Marin County, and mission scenes. She died in Oakland, CA on Nov. 10, 1911. Exh: SFAA, 1872-85; Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1875-77; Calif. State Fair, 1902.

Born in Rochester, New York, she lived most of her life in San Francisco where she was married to F.M. Pixley. She became a landscape painter, often working in Marin County. In 1907, she made a sketching trip to Olympia, Washington.

In New York, she had studied at the Cooper Union and in San Francisco at the California School of Design under Will Sparks and Arthur Mathews.
