| Born in Temescal Rancho (now Emeryville), CA on Feb. 3, 1857, the daughter of Judge John McHenry. At age 12 Emma was taken by Harrison Eastman to the studio of William Keith where she became Keith's first pupil. Her sister Mary later became Keith's wife and the two families were neighbors in Berkeley. After marrying Charles Fremont Pond, a lieutenant (and later admiral) in the U.S. Navy, she traveled extensively. Her home in Berkeley was at 2621 Ridge Road.
