Fraktur artist Francis Portzline (Portsline) was born in 1762 in France and died in 1858 in Perry Township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania.
A speaker of French, German and English, he came to America in 1777, landing in Baltimore. He then moved to York, Pennsylvania where he married a German girl. Soon thereafter they settled in Perry Township where Francis taught in one of the first schools in the township.
He also drew and painted baptismal and marriage certificates in c (showing 500 of 827 characters). |
