Born in Vienna, Austria in 1959, George Peter came to the United States in 1886 to work as a panorama painter. He was active in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the time the center for the panorama painting industry. He also designed scenery for the Pabst Theater and was associated with the Milwaukee Public Museum where he became the Art Director in 1923.
