This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Note, submitted June 2004, from Jessica Hart.

George S. Payne was my great uncle on my father's side. He lived his life in Springfield, Massachusetts and was a lithographer for the Springfield newspaper. His artwork was a hobby. My father has two paintings by him, one looking out of a warehouse door at a Friendship sloop in Friendship Maine; the other is a beautiful still life of a bowl of fruit.

He was married to a woman by the name of Edna Jones and they had a daughter Ruth. In the 1980s, two granddaughters were still living.
