| | Born in Palermo, Italy on Feb. 1, 1875. Portanova studied at the School of Fine Arts in Palermo and the Institute of Fine Arts in Paris. He arrived in San Francisco in 1914 to work on the Italian Bldg at the PPIE and opted to remain. He taught art at UC Berkeley and was a resident of San Francisco in 1941. Portanova died in Sonoma County, CA on Dec. 11, 1956. Exh: SFAA, 1916-24; SWA, 1949.
