| Born Ft. Scott, Nov. 30, 1912; d. New York, NY, Mar. 7, 2006. Artist. Photographer. Writer. Composer. Film-director. Film producer. Parks became the first African-American photographer to work at magazines like Life and Vogue, and the first black to work for the Office of War Information and the Farm Security Administration. Parks achieved these milestones in the 1940s. Later, in the 1960s, he helped break racial barriers in Hollywood as the first African-American director for a major stud (showing 500 of 3589 characters). |
