One of the well-known, highly active illustrators of the 1950s and
early 1960s, Jack Potter was knowns for his stylized line drawings and
flat shapes, which lent a crisp, modern look to his illustrations. He
was also a teacher whose institutions included the School of Visual
Arts in New York City. He had a strong commitment to drawing
"strictly from life", both for his own work and for his classes.
He was a graduate in 1949 of The California Art Center School of
