James March Phillips was born in Fresno California in 1913. His art career began in the 1940's while attending Jean Turner Art Academy in San Francisco where is studied under such prominent artists as Louis J. Rogers, Alfred Owles, and J. Paget Fredricks. His paintings were sold in numerous galleries in the west during the 1940's and 1950's.

James March Phillips (1913-1981) Born: Fresno, California; Studied: Turner Art Center (San Francisco).  James March Phillips studied art in San Francisco. His intructors were Alfred Owles and Louis Rogers, both well-known illustrators. During the 1940s and 1950s, Phillips produced watercolor and gouache paintings depicting california landscape and seascape subjects.  His works were sold at art galleries in Northern California.

Painter. Born in Fresno, CA on July 1, 1913. By the 1930s Phillips had settled in San Francisco. He studied there with Louis J. Rogers, Alfred Owles, and at Jean Turner Art Center. He died in San Francisco on Aug. 22, 1981. Primarily a watercolorist, he was a prolific painter of San Francisco scenes and landscapes of Sonoma and Napa. In: Fairmont Hotel (SF). DR.
