| The following is from Ed Dannenberg who writes:
> Studied Art in Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, WI. > 1950's traveled in Greece with a friend, Kostas Santikos > 1958-1959 > Exhibited and Represented by Grippi Gallery, New York City > 1959 On a grant, worked and studied at the Huntington Hartford Foundation, > Pacific Palisades, CA. > In my collection I own an oil painting by Phillips titled "Eoka" portraying a young Greek girl with a volley ball. ----------------------------------------------------------------------Born in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, James Phillips settled in Austin, Texas and became an art historian and painter He earned a BS degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and then attended the Art Students League in New York, and in Paris, the Academie de Grande Chaumier and the Ecole de Louvre. He earned MA and MFA degrees at the University of Texas and began teaching there in 1968.
His style is Magic Realism, and mediums are egg tempera and oil. Phillips is also a research historian with emphasis on Roman and late antique art emphasizing architecture.
