This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Jan Peeters (b.1913-1992)
He was born in Amsterdam in 1913, and lived and worked in Holland most of his life. He studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (in Amsterdam) under Heinrich Campendonk and Hendrik Adriaan van der Wal, and became particularly skilled in watercolors. His body of work includes both figurative and abstract works, and occasionally surrealist works. In 1937 he was awarded the bronze medal at the World Exposition in Paris. He later became an instructor at the New Kunstschool in Amsterdam.
