Joel Perlman (1943-) Joel Perlman was 14 when he decided to become a sculptor. He was a scrappy scholarship kid at Fieldston School in the Bronx, trying to cope with his father’s sudden death from a heart attack. To help restore Perlman’s sense of possibility, a classmate’s father introduced Perlman to sculptor Jason Seley -- later a Cornell art department faculty member and dean of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning.
