| Portrait painter. Born in Manchester, England in 1844. Partington was well educated and studied art in his native land. With wife and children, he immigrated to Oakland, CA in 1889. The family lived in a tent at Lake Temescal until living quarters could be found. Two of his children, Richard and Gertrude, became wellknown artists. The family moved often making formal schooling for his children difficult; he solved the problem by training them himself. After teaching them to read and write, he ta (showing 500 of 1078 characters). |
