Biography from Tree's Place Gallery:
Joseph Paquet received his B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Paquet credits John Foote and John Osborne as being two significant influences during his formative years as a young painter.

John Foote served as a mentor to Paquet while he was still a student at the School of Visual Arts, cultivating Paquet's interest in drawing the human figure.  He then worked with John Osborne, who taught him to go beyond a mere transcription of nature.  Paquet says of this experience, "the intellectual process became married to the intuitive. Paint what you know as well as what you see."

Paquet’s landscapes exhibit the confident brushwork of a skilled plein-air painter.  He is able to create a believable space with a single stroke of paint.  The world Paquet depicts may, or may not be, the world as it actually is, but rather his paintings represent an articulation of the vision of the artist.

For Paquet in his own words: "To make you see what I have seen is part of my objective; but, to have you feel what I have felt is the ultimate goal."

Paquet currently teaches and paints at the Hurinenko and Paquet Studio in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Honored by his peers, he received the Artists' Choice Award at the 2001 Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational .

He is a member of the California Art Club and is a Signature Member of the Plein Air Painters of America.  His publications include feature articles in the Washington Post Sunday Magazine (October 1995), the Classical Realism Journal (1999), The Artist Magazine (May 2002), and in American Artist magazine (March 2004).
