from Auction House Records. PORTRAIT OF THE SHIP "GLORY OF THE SEAS". Artwork images are copyright of the artist or assignee

|
Although little is known about this artist who adeptly worked in both watercolors and oils, records show that he sailed to the far east in the 1860's. (Traditionally, the majority of sea painters lacked any gallery representation, preferring instead to work directly from commissions by the vessel owners themselves). He later settled in Boston and Marblehead, where apparently he continued with his successful commissioned ship's portraiture pursuit.
Being active in one of the largest sailin (showing 500 of 751 characters). |
