| A painter from Chicago, Illinois, Jo Peterson studied with Jess Hobby and Ellsworth Young of Oak Park and exhibited with the All-Illinois Society of Fine Arts and at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1938, she traveled to Paris, where she met Matisse who praised her work. She worked at Austin High School's Evening School as a registrar, and an exhibit of her work was held there.
