This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Beginning with a career in mining engineering, Leander Plummer changed course as a young man and in 1883 enrolled in art classes at the Academie Julian in Paris. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and sportman and often depicted wildlife. He became so interested in marine specimens that he had a wharf constructed so he could study live marine mammals and fish.
Plummer also loved wood carving and created "relief paintings", his word for wood reliefs that he stained with paint. He exhibited at Doll and Richards Gallery in New York.
