This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from the artist:

Les Perhacs, born on October 5, 1940 is a Southern California native. He moved to Washington State's Olympic Peninsula in 1968, and lived there until 1988 when he moved back to California. Since 1989 he has lived in Fallbrook, California north of San Diego. His studio encompasses a private bronze foundry enabling him to create one of a kind bronze works along with small editions.

While his early career work focused on realism using animal forms as the subject matter, Les never has considered himself a 'wildlife artist'. His study under Abstract Expressionists David Smith and Willem DeKooning at Pratt Institute in New York laid a strong foundation. However, since childhood Les had been involved with animals, including taxidermy, falconry, and a US government Federal Collector's permit for a study with ravens, so he began his art career with a subject he knew best - animals.

For the past decade, Les works back and forth between realism and abstraction. He uses a variety of materials, but prefers hard stone, steel and bronze.
