A sculptor and photographer who lived much of his life in Italy, Longworth Powers was born in Cincinnati and studied with his father, Hiram Powers (1805-1873) a famous Neo-Classical sculptor.
Longworth Powers was named for Cincinnati lawyer Nicholas Longworth, who became the patron of Hiram Powers. Because of Longworth, Powers spent time in Washington DC and got many portrait commissions of prominent political figures including Andrew Jackson and also got a formal contract from the Unite (showing 500 of 1954 characters). |
