Born in San Francisco February 1884, Louis Pedler changed the spelling of his last name to Louis Carl Pedlar ca. 1905 when he arrived in New York City from San Francisco. His newspaper career was short-lived, and he got into advertising working for Calkins & Holden. He then started his own firm with Tom Ryan in the 1920's, Pedlar & Ryan on 250 Park Ave, NY, NY. He founded the NYAD - New York Art Directors Club which is still flourishing and was its first president.
