Louis Porter, American born 1904, died 1984. Porter studied in 1929-1930 at The Arts Students League in New York with the modernist Russian painter Kimon Nicolades, who taught him to study, in Porter’s words, “not what I saw but rather what I felt”.
Under pressure and with contacts from his father he attended Yale University Law School. But Porter struggled for years with the responsibilities of his father's law practice, a new family, and making a living. For several (showing 500 of 2134 characters). |
