| Born on a ranch in Hopland, CA on Aug. 14, 1913. Marion Hewlett grew up and made her debut in San Francisco. She majored in Oriental art while at Stanford University and later studied at the Imperial University of Tokyo. After her marriage to John Pike in 1935, she settled in Los Angeles and established a studio in Hancock Park. Many notables sat for her including Coco Channel, Norton Simon, Zubin Mehta, Rosalind Russell, and Ronald Reagan. (Her portrait of Reagan was on the cover of Time m (showing 500 of 768 characters). |
