This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Mark Planisek was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio in 1959.  He has lived in Washington, D.C. since 1982.  Planisek was schooled traditionally in drawing and painting, but it was the camera and its ability to mirror life that captivated his interest.  He is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers.

Planisek's  work was accepted into the Florence Biennale in December, 2007.  He was one of the highlighted artists at "The Creative Life," an exhibition showcasing the impact of The Art Institute's of Pittsburgh's alumni network on American culture from 1921 to present.  The exhibition was at the Smithsonian, affiliated Senator John Heinz Regional History Center in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

While attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in the late 1970's, Planisek was inspired by a certain drawing and painting instructor named Henry Koerner, a confident, boisterous and very colorful personality and painter in his own right.

Planisek has had his art exhibited at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Washington, D.C.; The Concepto Gallery in Brooklyn New York;  Columbia University at the Teachers College Gallery in New York City; and the Artist Space Gallery in SoHo, New York City.

He has shown his work at the Smithsonian's International Gallery (1999), in Washington, D.C.; the Elmhurst Art Museum, Elmhurst, Illinois. (1999); the Area Gallery, Toronto, Ontario (2000); Washington Project For The Arts/Corcoran, "9 x 10" group exhibition (May/June 2007); Holter Museum of Art, Helena, Montana, "ANA 35", Group Exhibition juried by Willem Volkersz (June-August, 2007); Corcoran Gallery of Art, "2007 Annual Auction Gala," Washington, D.C.

He has exhibited his work abroad at Gallerie Ambiente' in Gelnhaussen, Germany, Roxi's Pocket Art Museum in Hamburg, Germany; Tsinghua University, Beijing, China; and The Lalit Kala Academy of Art, New Delhi, India.
