This biography from the Archives of AskART:
An impressionist landscape painter in watercolor, oil and acrylics, Mary Ann Pope works primarily from photographs she takes of scenes around Huntsville, Alabama, especially forest interiors deep in the woods near her home.  Many of her locations are in remote areas where it is inconvenient to set up an easel for plein-air painting.  Her approach to painting is to study nature closely, and then "simplify its forms, and caputre its appearance with controlled applications" of paint. (107)

Pope, who was born in Louisville studied in her hometown at the University of Louisville and in New York City at Cooper Union.

In 1966, she moved to Huntsville, Alabama where she has worked as an art instructor, professional painter and graphic artist.  She is active as a member and exhibitor in the National Watercolor Society, the Watercolor Society of Alabama, the Kentucky Watercolor Society, and Watercolor USA.
