| Mary Pettis is a landscape painter who divides her home between Hawaii and Minnesota. Pettis applies the teachings of English critic and author John Ruskin to her approach to painting. Pettis believes mastery of the medium requires knowledge, mastery, simplicity and mystery and it is master of the message that requires introspection and contemplation. Pettis strives to include both in her landscape works.
