| An emerging artist, Matthew Pierog is known for his super-real still
life paintings with precisely arranged objects such as fruit and
Oriental-motif vases against dark backgrounds. He paints from
actual set ups and not photographs.
Of his work, he says: "It's a Zen thing, for me. The
simplicity of the paintings, not a lot going on in them. They
aren't traditional still lifes, but they are a little different and
there are no surprises." (136)
Pierog, a graduate of the Hartford School of Art, is a resident of New York City.
