| | Born in Sibley, IA on May 29, 1893. Newell studied at the Chouinard and Otis Art Institutes in Los Angeles and worked as a costume designer for Paramount Studios. After marrying artist Julius Pommer in 1929, she settled in San Francisco and furthered her art studies at the CSFA, Hartwell School of Design, and with Bufano. Primarily an oil painter of still lifes and portraits, she also worked in watercolor and tempera. Mrs. Pommer died in San Francisco on June 3, 1963.
