A portrait painter, N Paul Petrovits was born in Hungary. He emigrated to New York City and then headed West for health reasons. From 1874 to 1875, he lived in San Francisco and in 1876, moved to Los Angeles.
By 1878, he was in Virginia City, Nevada, and in a rage, murdered his wife described as "a flirtatious 23 year old" (Hughes). In the early 1880s, he was hanged in Australia.
