| Born in Valparaiso, IN on Feb. 11, 1869. Paine's great grandfather was chief engineer to George Washington during the Revolution and one of Washington's pall bearers. In 1891 Robert Paine studied sculpture at the AIC and ASL of NYC before beginning his art career as an armature builder for sculptor Augustus Saint Gaudens. In 1924 he moved to Los Angeles where he assisted A. P. Proctor on sculpture projects and was active on the Federal Art Project. Paine invented the Pantographic machine use (showing 500 of 853 characters). |
