Biography from Chroma Gallery:
| Siddharth refers to his paintings as ‘architectural
abstractions.’ He finds inspiration in the quirky harmony of a
building’s structure, celebrating the rhythm of windows on a façade or
the juxtaposition of a stairway to the wall it ascends. In order
to reveal the beauty of these mundane, often overlooked spaces,
Siddharth sketches and photographs buildings that catch his eye on his
travels. Back in the studio, he translates these images onto the
canvas, abstracting forms so that shape and color take over, making us
look afresh at things we thought we knew.
The surfaces of his paintings are very important to Siddharth. He
uses vibrant glazes of color carefully layered onto the panel, playing
with gloss and matte finishes to bring certain elements of his
compositions forward and cause others to recede. His goal is to strike
a balance between likeness and abstraction. Sometimes the balance
is tipped, and lush color obscures recognizable forms altogether.
Born
in Kolhaphur, India, Siddharth has exhibited in numerous solo and group
shows around the world. He has won awards for his paintings
in the United States and India, including selection for juried
expositions at EXPO XXIV in Huntington, NY, the Crocker Art Museum in
Sacramento, and the Soho-Chelsea International Art competition in New
York.
