Sigmar Polke was born on February 13, 1941 in Oels, Neiderschlesien, German Democratic Republic. In 1953 he moved to West Germany. He studied glass painting in Dusseldorf-Kaiserwerth from 1959 through1960. He studied painting under Gerhard Hoehme and Karl-Otto Goetzin Dusseldorf from 1961 to 1967.
Polke was founder with Gerhard Richter and others of the Capitalist-Realist painting group in Dusseldorf in 1963. He was guest instructor at Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste in Hamburg from 1970 (showing 500 of 1187 characters). |
