A student at the Cooper Institute and the National Academy of Design, Van Dearing Perrine became the founder of the Hudson River Sketch Club, active between 1898 and 1912. The group's original focus was panoramic landscapes. His closest artist friends were Maurice Sterne, Alfred Maurer and Maurice Prendergast.
