| Born in Los Angeles, CA on Feb. 7, 1916, Phillips studied art for ten years in his native city followed by graduate studies at the University of Washington. He then taught art in the public schools of Tacoma, Washington for 30 years. He died in Tacoma on March 24, 1989.
