Biography from Braarud Fine Art:
Born in Missouri in 1843, William Samuel Parrott came west with his family to Oregon in 1847, and moved with them to Washington in 1859. By 1867 he had established himself as a painter in Portland, where he would maintain a studio for twenty years.

Parrott painted throughout the West from California to Idaho, but is best known for his paintings of the major peaks in the Cascade Mountains, especially Mount Hood, which became his specialty. Another well known Oregon painter, Eliza Rosanna Barchus, who would also specialize in depictions of Mount Hood, took lessons from Parrot in Portland in the early 1880s, shortly before embarking on her own professional career.

William H. Gerdts in "Art Across America: Two Centuries of Regional Painting, 1710-1920" refers to Parrott as "a landscape painter of considerable merit." He notes that one of his paintings of Washington's Mt. Rainier, nine feet wide, was reported in 1873 as the largest picture painted in Oregon up to that time.

Biography from William A. Karges Fine Art - Beverly Hills:
William Parrott was born in Missouri in 1844, and moved west to Oregon with his family as a boy. His early art training is unclear, but he was likely a self-taught painter. He established himself in Portland, maintaining a studio there for more than 20 years. Parrott painted extensively throughout the western states, and is best known for his dramatic landscapes of Mount Hood.

Biography from AskART:
Born in Missouri in 1843. At age four Parrott made the overland trek to Oregon in a prairie schooner with his family. Artistically inclined as a child, he began sketching and painting the area around his home in the Klickitat Valley. He opened his first studio in Portland in 1867. After 20 years there, he closed the studio and spent several years in the wilds of Oregon, Washington, and California. He established a studio in Oakland, CA in 1906 and for six years painted there before returning to the Klickitat area. His landscapes of Mt Hood, Mt Shasta, Crater Lake, and other scenic spots on the Pacific Coast brought him great national renown before his death near Goldendale, WA on June 7, 1915.
