| Born in Boston, MA in 1807. Acting as an agent for Boston merchants, Robinson was in California during 1829-37 and again in 1840-42. While traveling the coast from San Francisco to San Diego, he bought hides, sold manufactured goods, and in his leisure sketched scenes along the way. While in Santa Barbara, he married Anna Maria, the 15-year-old daughter of Captain Don José de la Guerra. His sketches were used to illustrate his book Life in California (1846). Robinson settled in San Francisco in 1849 as an employee of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company and remained until his death on Oct. 19, 1895. In: CHS.
